Can A Private Investigator Help Find A Runaway Teen?

Submitted by: David Almeida

These days, there are very few towns and cities where there hasn't been news of a runaway teen. Often times, a runaway teen will be found quickly, having headed out to a friend's home to calm down after a family argument. Other times however, a teenager will run away due to more dire circumstances – disappearing for a much longer period of time.

When a child is a runaway teen, it can be hard not to give up hope. A parent may check everywhere – contacting teachers and administrators at their child's school, the place where their child works, their teenager's friends and their families. They may put up missing posters with a photo of the runaway teen, run information in the local newspaper and even on television. And of course, they file reports with the police and other local authorities who they believe will help them to find their son or daughter.

But no matter how much effort some families put in to finding a runaway teen, they may not be able to find their sons or daughters on their own. A private investigator can help.

He or she can work with the police in your area to stay up to date on the investigation so that the same searches are not merely being repeated. And, of course, a private investigator can draw on contacts that he or she has, taking advantage of every available resource to help find a runaway teen.

In order to help find a runaway teen, a private investigator will need some information from the teen's parents. The private investigator will need to know:

the name and birth date of the runaway teen;

common places where he or she spends time and hangs out with friends, as well as where he or she goes to school or works a part time job;

ways of contacting friends of the runaway teen in case there are questions to be answered; and,
as many details as a parent is able to provide that may help to locate the missing teen.

With the right information, a private investigator can use this information to determine the runaway teen's likely activities and hangouts. He or she can search online to see whether or not the teen has accessed profiles on popular websites or in chatrooms. More importantly, however, a private investigator can search for a runaway teen using databases that are available to investigators – databases that the parents will not be able to access without using a private investigator.

Because of the information that a private investigator is able to access, he or she is likely to find more information about the location of a runaway teen. This information may lead to finding the missing child, but it is important to recognize that it may not happen overnight: finding any individual is more difficult when he or she does not want to be found.

However, when you are trying to locate a runaway teen, it is important to explore all of the options available to you – options that will help you to find the missing child. A private investigator is an option that should not be overlooked.
