Create Training Your New Puppy

Training your puppy is very important and involves forming a routine, discipline and rewards praise for the puppy for doing the right things. Every dog needs to be house trained and is of utmost importance because it teaches the dog where to relieve itself and where not to. Every time the dog relieves itself in the right place, it should be rewarded for doing the right thing.

When you are not at home for long period of time and need to leave your puppy at home, you need to be sure that you do not allow it to run around helter skelter in every nook and corner of the house.

If this happens you can count of finding small puddles and piles of doggy poop here and there. Make sure that your dog is confined to small areas that have water or stain resistant floors. Remember, when you are confining your dog to small areas you are not crate training it.

Crate training is a different concept all together. It is a form of house-training for puppies. Remember that dogs do not like to spoil the area where they are resting or sleeping. Therefore, when you put your puppy in a small confined area to rest, it will control its bladder and bowel movements so you don't have to wipe or clean up after you puppy. Remember the beginning is always hard once your puppy is trained you never have to potty train it again.

A puppy will need to be taken out to relieve every on hour. Take the puppy out for a walk and give it about five minutes to do it’s job. Within those five minutes if the job is not done, then you need to put the puppy back in the crate. This is giving the puppy some kind of structure and discipline. After doing this a few times your puppy will understand and get the idea.

If the puppy does its job while you are walking with it, then you have to reward your puppy. Give it a small treat, a pat on the head or play with it for 10 extra minutes. This way the puppy knows it is being appreciated for doing the right thing, and you will encourage it to do it more often.

The sole purpose of crate training is to restrict the puppy from relieving itself when it is confined. This will teach the puppy to relieve itself when it is released from the crate. This will also help your puppy develop some form of bladder and bowel control. If it helps, keep a diary that records your puppy’s relieving schedule. This will help greatly in the training process.

Do not abuse your power of crate training on the puppy. As this will only do more harm than good. Do not lock up your puppy for hours and forget about it. This will make the dog more agitated, as it will end up soiling its sleeping area. And it will also hamper the training process. Have a lot of patience because it will definitely pay off.
