You've got a date and seemingly, all the hard work is done - you've chatted the other person up, found the courage to ask them out, and yes - set a date. But, now what? Where will you go? What will you do? And, of course, what will you talk about? Like most things in life, when it comes to dating, preparation can save the day. The First Date - Where To Go: For a casual first date, lunch or coffee can be a great choice. It takes the pressure off a big evening out and just lets the two of you get to know one another in an easy and comfortable atmosphere. Also, lunch has a time limit of just an hour or two, and there is no pressure to stick around afterwards if things don't feel like they're working out. The First Date - What To Talk About: It may seem silly, but doing your homework before a date can really pay off. Spending just twenty minutes brushing up on news and gossip can really make your conversation shine. Browse through a newspaper, cycle through your online news sources, or listen to the radio on your way home from work. As you read or listen, think of items that you'd like to bring up in conversation. You can even create a conversation plan. This method can really help to take the pressure off and will let you go into your date feeling prepared and at ease. For starters, you can discuss the menu, what you'd like to order, and a few getting-to-know-you tidbits. Once the meal arrives, plan to talk about hobbies or traveling. And for desert, you can bring up a few current events. You don't have to follow that exact plan, but having a general outline can save the day if you find yourself sitting at the table, staring silently at your date. Securing The Second Date: You can bring the idea for a second date right into the conversation. As your date is winding down, try asking the other person about their favorite movie, then asking them if there are any new films out that they want to see. Once they tell you, say that you were thinking of going next week and ask them if they want to join you. Bingo - you now have your second date all lined up.
