San Diego Golf Academy first opened its doors in 1974. Since then, the school has grown to include three additional campuses across the country. Along with its San Diego location, these golf schools can be found in Phoenix, Myrtle Beach, and Orlando.

With more than 30 years in the business, San Diego Golf Academy has developed a formula for successful golf instruction. A quality education is important to students, but so is the campus atmosphere and an idea of what is to come after graduation. Here's what life on an SDGA campus is really like.

San Diego Golf Academy has an impressive roster of administrators and instructors, many of whom have been nationally recognized. Eric Wilson, Director of SDGA-Myrtle Beach, has received several awards for his role in golf education and other aspects of the industry. He has also received recognition from Coastal Business Life Magazine and Golf Digest, and his golf tips have appeared in USA Today. Likewise, the director of SDGA-Phoenix, Tim Eberlein, has many years of experience working in tournament operations, managing golf facilities, and writing for golf magazines; he was also awarded the Horton Smith Award for his work in golf instruction.

The rest of the staff at San Diego Golf Academy is much the same: lots of experience in the golf industry, awards for excellence, and media recognition. SDGA obviously cares very much about providing top-notch education, which means that as a student, you know your golf instruction will be top priority.

San Diego Golf Academy offers four thriving campuses with all the amenities today's college students have become accustomed to. Each campus includes all of the standard facilities, such as classrooms, a library, a computer lab, and a student lounge. And of course, each campus features its own club repair shop.

SDGA golf schools also use technology to create an environment that fosters a love of golf and learning. For instance, the school went wireless in 2006. As a student on any of SDGA's four campuses, you'll be able to hop online from a variety of places: Not just classrooms, but also the library and student lounge offer WiFi access.

Another hi-tech advantage offered to their students is access to a vast virtual library. Students can view the full text of more than 30,000 textbooks and hundreds of periodicals, simply by signing in online.

Finally, SDGA's Phoenix campus offers the best that modern golf technology can offer: an indoor golf center where students can perfect their techniques using a state-of-the-art video analysis system.

San Diego Golf Academy offers their students more than just a good education and a great campus atmosphere: They also provide a direct link between education and a career. With a combination of internships and job placement service, students have an easy way to transition from school to a career.

Like any college, this academy offers lots of internship opportunities. The network of schools actually makes arrangements with local golf businesses, in order to get their students the hands-on experience they need to make it in the industry after graduation. For instance, in 2006 San Diego Golf Academy announced collaboration with Troon Golf, which would enable SDGA students to pursue internships with the luxury golf resort corporation.

San Diego Golf Academy also extends its help to its graduates. GolFutures, a golf job placement service that is actually owned and operated by SDGA, is available to all students and graduates. In this way, SDGA actually goes one step farther than colleges traditionally have been expected to: They help their students find their way into the real world after graduation.

Deciding what golf school you want to attend is a tough decision, and the San Diego Golf Academy certainly isn't the only option on the table. Sometimes, though, it helps to get a feel for campus life at a school, and decide whether it is somewhere you want to spend the next couple of years of your life.
