Pregnancy Week By Week

Submitted by: Jennifer R Davis

It seems as though pregnancy week by week gets harder and harder on the expecting mother. Surprisingly, the first week of your pregnancy you aren't even pregnant yet! Instead, it starts with the first day of your last menstrual cycle. This is only true when you're counting with the gestational age method, which most doctors and pregnancy counters do. To help get pregnant, there are many things you need to do. First, stop smoking and drinking. Once you've done that, make sure to begin your pregnancy diet by eating tons of fruits and veggies.

After conception, pregnancy week by week begins to get more difficult. For example, at conception you may experience bloating or spotting. Spotting is normal, and is just a result of the fertilized egg implanting itself in your womb. By week five, you will have to go to the bathroom a lot. This is because your uterus is growing and placing additional pressure on your bladder. Often, there is morning sickness and swollen breasts that go along with the sick feelings. Also, morning sickness isn't only limited to the morning and may be felt at all hours of the day and night.

Finally, as your pregnancy week by week progresses, you'll need to avoid chemicals and substances that you don't really need. As the baby's organs start to develop in the early stages of pregnancy, this is the time when they are most susceptible to birth defects. It's extremely important to stay away from alcohol and drugs, but you should also steer clear of unnecessary perms, hair coloring, manicures and other related things you may do on a regular basis. Also, if you haven't already contacted a prenatal doctor yet, you should probably make an appointment. Make sure you look into exercising and staying active, otherwise you'll put on a ton of baby weight!
