Preparing For Your First Cornhole Tournament

Submitted by: Dave Roth

Not everyone even knows what the Cornhole game is, but for those who do it is often much more than just a little hobby. Instead, the game is gaining in popularity as a serious sport, and there are tournaments springing up in many areas of the country. For people who unfamiliar with the Cornhole game, many of them know it as the bean bag game or the bean bag toss. Many of them also played the game in elementary school in physical education class. After that, most people just forgot about it, but there are people who do enjoy playing it and who do like to organize and participate in tournaments with it. These people have taken the Cornhole game and made it into a more significant sport than many people thought it would ever be. They take small, cloth, filled bags and toss them toward a hole in a plastic or wooden board. If the bags go through the hole, points are scored. They are also scored if the bag remains on the board, but this is not worth as many points.

In a tournament there are usually many Cornhole boards. People play against one another, and sometimes they play in teams. There are different kinds of tournaments for these things, and there are a lot of different options for prizes. Some of the Cornhole tournaments pay cash or offer other prizes, and some of them are only for the sake of competing. Either way, however, people enjoy them. Not everyone who plays in a Cornhole tournament is concerned about financial gain. The fellowship and fun that they get when they play their favorite game with others is often enough for them, and can mean more than any tangible prize. In order to prepare for your first Cornhole tournament, however, there are some things that you need to know. First, be sure to practice only with regulation equipment. If you use a Cornhole board that is not the right size or bags that are not the right weight, you could end up with serious problems when you get to the tournament. It is also crucial that you stand the right distance from the board and follow all rules of the game to make sure that you do not learn the wrong way.

If you spend all of your time practicing the Cornhole game but you do not do it the right way you could have a big problem when it came time for the tournament. Even something as simple as not standing the right distance from the board when practicing could throw your aim off substantially. This would not be a good way to get started in your first tournament. Once you are aware of that, though, there are other options that you have. You can practice with someone who has been in a tournament before, as this is one of the best ways to make sure that you follow the rules. You can also read up on the game and watch other tournaments. Both of these things can give you valuable information that you can use to make your first Cornhole tournament a success.

Dave Roth runs a site that sells cornhole games. In addition to free building dimensions and rules, the site also carries discount weather resistant bags and boards.
