Single Man's Guide to Buying Baby Gifts

Submitted by: Mandie Klein

Single men buying baby gifts? Sounds like a recipe for disaster. But with a few tips, any man can turn into a pro at shopping for babies.

Shopping - it's a woman thing. Men are just not gifted with the shopping sense that women seem to posses. Sure, guys know what to check out when buying a car or an entertainment system. But ask them to buy their own clothes and you would see that they are not too confident. How much more if they had to buy baby gifts? If you are a guy, don't get offended or embarrassed about this fact. It is a natural thing, but this doesn't mean you can't change it.

Read up to learn a few tricks. And impress your girlfriend by getting her girl friend or sister the most wonderful baby gifts on her baby shower.

Plan and Organize

Shopping for baby gifts needs planning and organization. You probably have no idea what to buy and where to buy, so the best thing you can do is to ask around. Ask your mom or a friend who is a parent what babies need and what moms-to-be want to receive. Yes, you have to think about the mommy-to-be. Get a paper and a pen and jot down the baby gifts as it is mentioned to you.

Get Nosey

After you have listed down the possible baby gifts, try to set a budget and organize your list according to its price range. Crush out items that are out of your league. Then, think about the mom-to-be. It would be a great help if you knew her well enough to know what her priorities are. If not, you can always ask people who are close to her. Is she the fashionable kind, or the practical kind? Does she need anything for the baby room? Has she mentioned something she wants for the baby but cannot afford?

It would also be useful if you found out the baby's gender and the motif of the baby's room before you go shopping so that your gift blends perfectly, or even accentuates the baby room's decor. Knowing these things will help you narrow down your choices and cut your shopping time by half, and it will guarantee that your gift is a big hit on the big day.

Team Up

You can also team up with the dad-to-be or someone close to the mom-to-be. After all, it's the mom-to-be you're planning to surprise, right? Find out what they need so that you are sure your gift isn't frowned upon. Just make sure that your little secret does not spill over.

Shop and Wrap

Once you have decided on a gift, hit the yellow pages to see where you can purchase them. Or, you can ask your mom or your friends where you can get them. This way, you do not waste hours driving around, trying to locate these stores.

But if you are not up for spending an afternoon downtown, you can also surf the web and do your shopping online. There are plenty of websites that offer wonderful baby gifts. Be sure to wrap the gift up nicely. If you can't do it yourself, ask someone else who can. Great gifts should come in great packages.
