Six Simple Ways To Deal With Acne

Submitted by: James Brown

Acne is a skin condition characterized by pimples, whiteheads and blackheads. In the severe case there can be pimples with pus and deep scarring. Its a random condition that can affect teens when they reach puberty. Some people in their forties have had it also.

A lot of research is done but the only commonality seems to be oily skin. It isn't a symptom of a more serious disease -- and it isn't dangerous or contagious. It can erode your confidence especially in the outbreaks that result in pustules and scars.

Can anything be done to help. Absolutely. There are many treatments to try yourself. If nothing works you can consult your doctor. There are many prescriptions she or he can try. Just remember one thing. The product that clears your best friend's skin overnight may not help you at all. The next product might be the one that works for you.

Try these six suggestions. If none of them help at least they won't make it worse.

-- Keep your face as oil-free as possible: Wash your face twice a day with mild soap. Liquid is good but a bar soap can be just as mild. Try Dove or Neutrogena. There's a bar soap that has oatmeal in it. This is recommended for eczema sufferers to bathe in. It should be soothing to acne also. Try a liquid cleanser with a mild exfoliate. Remember -- wash your face often -- with a mild product. Dry it gently by patting it with the towel rather than rubbing.

--Several times a day use an astringent to remove any excess oil: If you notice your face looking shiny even after washing you can take a cotton pad and wipe it with astringent. Choose a gentle brand. It shouldn't cause a burning sensation unless it is too harsh. A treatment should sooth your skin -- never make it hurt.

--Spot treat pimples before going to bed: There are too many products to list. Each one is proclaimed to be rated number one in several studies. The company that makes and sells the product will do study after study until they get the result they want. Unless research is done by an independent lab consider it worthless. Anyways, while you sleep the product you choose can dry your pimples and blackheads.

--Follow the basic rules for healthy living: Fresh air, healthy food, 8 glasses of water and enough exercise and sleep. Even if it doesn't help the acne you'll gain other health benefits.

--Avoid stress whenever you can: There are varying opinions on whether or not stress causes acne. Even if the experts aren't sure -- why take a chance.

--Do not squeeze, pick or even touch the pimples: Now go smile at yourself in the mirror. Your acne can be treated. If you're a teen it is likely to clear up completely before college. Remember, everyone should have a few blemishes. That's what makes you human.

If after a reasonable time period of trying these six treatments on your own, your acne is no better, turn the problem over to your doctor. You can be treated with a prescription medicine. If it persists after that -- perhaps you need a dermatologist. They can use treatments to help even the most severe cases...
