Spirituality Information - Journey In The Fields Of Forever ( Part 48)

Submitted by: John Harricharan

The three of us spent the next day enjoying the music of calypso bands and sitting on the beach. The sun was disappearing over the horizon and evening was not far off so, I walked over to a cluster of coconut trees. This was a paradise custom-made for daydreaming and I took full advantage. I daydreamed of roaming the world, dropping by to see the fjords of Norway while enjoying the Land of the Midnight Sun, walking by the Hanging Gardens of Babylon or sailing down the Potaro
River to see the mighty Kaieteur Falls of Guyana.

I probably would have drifted off, had it not been for the thought that there were not many hours remaining and soon we’d be flying back home. The few people on the beach had already gone. Since only the three of us remained, Gideon and Marla came and stayed with me under the coconut palms for a while. Only the three of us remained. “In a few hours we must leave,” said Gideon, stating the obvious.

“I guess, back to the real world soon . . . right?” I muttered.

“This is the real world, John,” replied Marla, “wherever you are is the real world. Some folks would call this an illusion instead of reality. What does it really matter? A rose by any other name. . . .”

Gideon stood up and announced, “I’ll go ahead. See you both in an hour.”

“We’ll be there,” said Marla as Gideon brushed some sand from his arms and proceeded back to the hotel.

“Don’t feel like leaving yet, Marla,” I said. “We still have a little while so, no rush,” she replied.

“You know, Marla,” I said as I turned to face her, “I can’t believe you were involved with a stockbroker and a musician.”

“Why?” she asked, “do you think I’m incapable of emotional involvements?”

“No,not incapable,” I replied,“maybe just above those feelings. Perhaps, somewhat distant, managing to keep emotions at arm’s length.Even more surprising, whatwere you doing cohorting with mere mortals?”

“Well, you and I are similar in some respects, then,” she replied in a rather clipped tone.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Haven’t you noticed that there are a number of friends and associates who think you are above those feelings too? Don’t you seem distant to those who would really want to get closer to you?” She had a way of answering questions with more questions.
