Who Will Be Spiderman’s Next Enemy?

Submitted by: Jon Caldwell

In October 2007, Spiderman director Sam Raimi said that he and the studio were looking for a new writer that would have a brand new take on the Spider-Man series. Raimi would relinquish creative control of the sequel’s story and focus on either directing or producing the script. James Vanderbilt was soon announced as screenwriter, impressing the studio with his focus on characterization. The studio also decided to limit the scope of the film to two villains.

Vanderbilt is known for having done a fair job on the script for the 2007 Zodiac movie. His most recent film Zodiac was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay by the Chicago Film Critics Association, the Satellite Awards, and the Writers Guild of America.

He is also doing the writing for the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie, scheduled for 2009.

Let us all wait and see on the difference that James Vanderbilt can give in the classic comic superhero.

Spidey will not be THE Spiderman if not for its great creator. Spiderman fanatics will be forever being grateful to writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko. Stan Lee is the genius behind several comic characters; he co-created Spiderman, Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, Dr. Strange, and many other superhero comic books. He has been awarded the Comics Hall of Fame Award for his remarkable contribution in the Comics industry which even spans to the Movie industry.

The Spiderman character has its first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15 (Aug. 1962 edition), from then on it has become one of the most popular, durable and commercially successful superheroes worldwide, and in no doubt Marvel’s most famous character.

The second on the list to be described is the villain called Lizard. Dr. Curt Connors was a very good surgeon who helps his country during the war but a blast cost his arm to be amputated. Because of this mishap, he became obsessed in finding out the secrets of reptilian regeneration and reptilian biology. When he finally created a serum, he immediately tested it to himself and his arm successfully grows back. But a major side effect was happening, he began to transform into a humanoid lizard. And developed a second chaotic and savage personality. With this happening, his wife & son left him, afraid that he might hurt them. Because of this, he began to cause a series of troubles and fought Spiderman many times.

The third and last on the list to be described is the villain called Chameleon. He is Dmitri Smerdyakov, an illegitimate son of the patriarch of the Russian Kravinoff family and a servant. His father and half-brother, Dmitri, treated him with brutality and contempt. Because of this, he was deeply scarred and began to repress his very identity. This led him to become a master of disguise, wherein he can perfectly impersonate a person, and began to be called the Chameleon. To conceal his identity, he basically relies on his skills, mixture of costumes and make-up. He has a multi-pocket disguise vest where he keeps all his needed materials. Because of his many impersonations, the Chameleon, is tagged as one of Spiderman’s elusive enemy.
